When can I get a refund for treatment?
In accordance with Art. 219 of the Tax Code of the Russian Federation, citizens are entitled to payment of compensation for funds spent on treatment abroad.

The non-taxable portion of the income is called a tax deduction. If a citizen of the Russian Federation is in official labor relations with the employer and pays income tax, he is entitled to a refund of 13% of the amount of expenses for foreign treatment. In this case, it does not matter who is undergoing treatment, the citizen himself or his relatives.

Article 219 of the Tax Code of the Russian Federation also stipulates the condition for receiving such a deduction – treatment should be carried out exclusively in clinics licensed to provide medical services in accordance with the legislative framework of Russia. Foreign clinics are licensed in their own country, therefore, Russians cannot receive monetary compensation.

But if you conclude an agreement with a Russian clinic that has the necessary license from the Russian Federation and pay for its services in Russia, after which this clinic directs the patient, for example, to treat cancer abroad, the patient has the right to reimburse treatment costs.

Tax deduction for treatment abroad

You can count on the return of part of the costs in several cases.

Refund of medical institution services is possible under the following conditions:

expenses for own treatment or treatment of a close relative (parents, husband, wife, children under the age of 18) in Russian clinics;
the services for which the payment was made are included in the corresponding list approved by the Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation of March 19, 01 under number 201 (hereinafter the Decree);
the clinic conducting the treatment is licensed in accordance with applicable law.
